Careful selection and cutting of the leather.
From the leather room to the cutting, the clicker marches every pair through careful cutting of the leather. Clocking describes the sound of the cutter’s knife on the brass bound pattern.

Closing and lasting.
Individual pieces of the upper and lining leather now have to be sewn together to make the upper. Some styles require great detail and even hand stitching to create the desire appearance. The lasting process involves stretching the upper material over the last and securing it to the bottom of the insoles. The shape is retained when the last is removed.

Making and finishing the shoe.
The shoes now take on a recognisable appearance. The soles and heels are now attached using one of the four different construction methods. The shoes then go through the finishing touches of hand staining the soles and hand bunking the decorative detailing on the sole of the shoe. And, finally in the shoe room, we apply a variety of finishes like the highly skilled art of hand-burnishing.

Workmanship.
What makes up so special is our workforce. They are craftsmen and experienced shoe-makers, many of whom have been brought up in Desborough, a town stepped in tradition of shoemaking. Some even have fathers and grandfathers that have worked for Cheaney, thus handing skills down over many generations, and like their forefathers are passionate about the brand and its value. Our entire process takes place in the UK, which underlines our commitment to quality and distinguishes us from many of our competitors.

Shoe Care.
When people think of shoe care, polishing first comes to mind. However, using shoe trees is very important in order to maintain a good pair of leather shoes. Wooden shoe trees should be inserted into the shoe following every wearing, as these will absorb perspiration and help to reduce the creasing of the upper. With regular use, shoe trees will make shoes look and feel even better, reduce odour, and increase longevity.

Polishing.
Polishing your Cheaney shoes on a regular basis is important, and Cheaney has a full selection of high quality English wax polishes. Shoes should always be allowed to dry naturally and then wiped clean before polishing, which is best applied with a soft cloth and rubbed off with a high quality bristle brush. This process also helps to retain and replace the leather’s natural oils. We recommend that you use a Cheaney shoe horn, when fitting your shoes. Refurbishment Service. With proper care Cheaney shoes will give comfort, value and service over a considerable time. However, if after wear you wish to extend the life of your Cheaney shoes, we are able, because of the quality of the materials used in the original manufacturing process, to offer a full refurbishment service.
